SUMMARY OF THE 2005 SEASON

Three young Ospreys (two females and a male) were successfully raised at the breeding nest by their parents 03(97) and 05(00). This brings to 11 the total of youngsters fledged in Rutland since 2001. Story and pictures of breeding in 2005 are here.

Eleven young Ospreys, 9 females and 2 males, were translocated from Scotland in order to redress the gender balance in the Rutland population. A diary of this translocation can be found here.

Three non-breeding males, 08(97), 09(98) and 06(00), were present throughout the summer. Each established a new territory for themselves and succeeded in attracting females. Five unringed females were identified, one of whom was present for over 4 months.

Two adult males, 03(98) and 10(00), failed to return in 2005. Another male, 02(01), spent a short time in Rutland and was identified at three other locations in England.

The Rutland male, 11(98), bred successfully at its nest in North Wales producing two young. Two young were also produced at the nest of the Lake District Osprey Project near Bassenthwaite.
