Bird R02(1999)

Osprey R02(1999) was a male. It was translocated to Rutland Water on 12 July and released with a satellite transmitter on 29 July. Just before release this bird weighed 1310g and had a winglength of 420mm. BTO ring number 1342785. 

R02(1999) was the first young bird to be seen attempting to catch fish after release.

Bird R02(1999) was found dead under power lines a short distance west of Rutland Water on 31/8/99. It had been found by a local farmer beneath power cables at Gunthorpe about 2km west of the nature reserve. Its wing appeared to be broken. The last data from the satellite had been received at 19:24 on 29th August. It had been last sighted on the Reserve on 27th August.

The transmitter from R02(1999) was found to be in working order and was moved to bird R06(1999).
