The Flight of Osprey T04 (2000)

Osprey T04 was a male. It was translocated to Rutland Water on 11 July and released on 1 August. Just before release this bird weighed 1360g and had a winglength of 440mm. BTO ring number 1367817.

T04's mother was S06 so its older half-brother was R03. Its father is S18. It was very active in its pen before release and the first bird to come in to take food from the feeding platform. It carried a solar-powered radio transmitter.

T04 followed the westerly route initially, leading to a Channel crossing to Brittany. On 6/9 it was at Les Sables d'Olonne, near the observatory where its mother S06 was seen during her migration on 21/8. Despite the efforts of local birdwatchers, T04 was not seen while he was in the area.

The temporary move 80km northwards on 12 -14 /9 was very surprising.

High quality transmissions were received from the area E of la Rochelle until 21/10 when they suddenly ceased.
