Weekend Osprey Walks

Each Saturday and Sunday a member of the Osprey team leads a guided walk to Shallow Water hide at 2pm. The walk takes you through the reserve's fantastic wildflower meadows with a chance of singing Turtle Doves, hunting Barn Owls and a wealth of butterfly and dragonfly species. Once in the hide, you'll be able to enjoy spectacular views of 08 and 5N on their Manton Bay nest. The walks are just the price of a permit - £4 adults (£3 concessions).

Tuesday Osprey and Wildlife Walks

Join a member of the Osprey team on a guided walk around the Lyndon reserve every Tuesday from 10am-12:30pm. Listen for singing Nightingales and other summer visitors on the woodland trail through Gibbet's Gorse, improve your wildflower identification skills as we stroll through the spectacular wildflower meadows and then get a close-up views of 08 and 5N from Waderscrape hide. Waderscrape hide also provides a great opportunity to look for Water Rails, and listen to signing Reed and Sedge Warblers. Booking for this event is essential and can be made in person at the Lyndon centre, by phoning 01572 737378 or by email. £5 per person, or £2 with an Anglian Water Explorer Permit/Activity Pass.

Winter talks

Over the course of last winter, Project Officer, Tim Mackrill, gave a series of illustrated talks to groups throughout the region. With the aid of John Wright's fantastic photographs, Tim told the story of the project, from the first translocation of juvenile Ospreys from Scotland in 1996 and tracking the perilous migration to the west coast of Africa, to the return of the first birds to Rutland Water and the establishment of a breeding colony at the reservoir. He also explained how the project has influenced Osprey conservation in other parts of Europe, and considers the future for Ospreys in England.

If you would like to arrange for Tim to speak to your group, please send him an email or telephone 01572 770651.
