A wonderful site

As we have reported previously, life at Site B has been nothing short of idyllic this season! 03(97) has been nesting at this site since 2001, so this year is his fourteenth season. He has had three different partners, and he has been nesting with his current partner, an unringed female, since 2009. They have raised twelve chicks between them already, not including this year’s brood.

03(97) is a remarkable Osprey, between 2001 and 2013 he raised a total of thirty chicks! Several of his young have returned to Rutland, and some of them have bred or are still breeding. He has grand-children that have returned to Rutland too! He is a very special bird to us, for if it were not for him, the population of Ospreys at Rutland would not be what it is today.

This year, 03(97) and his mate have two chicks. They are about four weeks old now, and are growing incredibly fast! Here are some wonderful photographs of the Site B family by Field Officer John Wright.
