33 has been on great form this Easter weekend, catching 2 enormous trout and a roach that have kept him and Maya going for the weekend, and proving that he will be more than capable of feeding 4 chicks, when the time comes!
He dropped one of the trout onto Maya as he came in to land, leaving her with scales on her tail feathers.
It’s been wonderful that 33 has been able to catch such huge meals, as the chance to go fishing has not always presented itself this weekend. The weather has been quite windy and at times rainy, not ideal for fishing, and 33 has also been spending lots of time with Maya defending the nest from intruding ospreys. The intruders have unfortunately not been identifiable as they have not come close enough to the nest to read their ring numbers.
As well as ospreys, our cameras have also picked up a passing red kite and a sand martin! The ospreys seemed mildly flustered by the red kite, who may have been after some leftover fish, but were not at all bothered by sand martins passing at close quarters, knowing that they are nothing to worry about.
Despite the intrusions and the bad weather, the eggs haven’t been uncovered for more than 2-3 minutes at a time, with Maya and 33 always returning to them before they have the chance to go cold.
Maya and 33 have continued to bring sticks to the site. Maya placed a stick on 33’s back this morning, and he did the same to her not long after!
Finally here are a few screenshots from the last few days.
