About Dr. Joyanne D. Miller School
Our school is part of the Egg Harbor Township School district in Atlantic county, New Jersey. We have over 7,000 students in grades K-12, with our school housing grades 4 & 5 with over 1,150 students.
What we would like to achieve
We would like to better understand the migration routes and habits of osprey. Our area is very close to the Atlantic Ocean and we have many waterways throughout our township. Osprey are becoming more plentiful here and are visible throughout the summer months.
About our local Ospreys
Osprey are considered "threatened" in New Jersey. Our osprey population is closely monitored, and organizations such as Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ install nesting platforms around the local waterways. We also have Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in our area, and there are several nesting platforms there that are utilized by osprey yearly. They also have an osprey cam that can be viewed at: http://www.conservewildlifenj.org/education/ospreycam/
