About Hugglecote Community Primary School
Hugglescote Communtiy Primary School is a larger than average sized primary school situated in the ex mining town of Hugglescote and Coalville. There are currently 420 pupils on role. The school is located in Leicestershire and to the North west of the county. We are lucky to have extensive grounds around the school and make good use of these, with small wooded area and pond. We also had an extra 200 trees planted around the perimeter approx 5 years ago under the free woods scheme run by the National Forest. We also have the areas of outstanding beauty with Bradgate Park and Charnwood Forest within 4 miles of the town. The children have been particularly interested in my recounts of Osprey nest guarding for the Glaslyn Ospreys in wales. Leicestershire is part of the new national forest.
What we would like to achieve
We would like to achieve a better knowledge and understanding of the migratory journey of the ospreys and all about the growth of the chicks from egg to fledge. This will also give the school a good understanding of not just osprey migration but all migratory birds in general. It will fuel an inquisitive audience who will hopefully get the hunger to learn more about birdlife and wildlife in general. Our topic for Yr 5 will be all about growth and this will be an ideal subject for them to learn and watch the ospreys at Rutland.
About our local Ospreys
Our nearest Ospreys will be in Rutland. Although I am a volunteer for the Glaslyn Ospreys and will be monitoring the progress of the Glaslyn pair too.
