Ospreys, like other migratory birds, have a unique ability to link communities separated by thousands of miles. Since 2011 we have been working closely with Junkung Jadama, a bird guide from The Gambia to set-up an education project for schools in West Africa. Over the past two winters staff and volunteers from the project have visited several schools in The Gambia to talk about the Ospreys that fly from Rutland to spend the winter there. We have now raised enough money for Junkung to continue with this vitally-important work throughout the year.
As part of the project we have also initiated a link between Whissendine and St Nicholas Primary Schools in Rutland and Tanji Lower Basic School in The Gambia. We have exciting plans to extend the schools link further and would love to hear from teachers who would like to be involved. To find out more please send us an e-mail.
