The first egg

It’s fair to say that the Lyndon Visitor Centre was absolutely buzzing this afternoon.

At 1:01pm the female stood up to reveal a newly-laid egg for the first time. Cheers rang out round the centre and for the rest of the afternoon staff, volunteers and visitors alike were glued to the television. This video shows the moment we saw the egg for the first time. And it wasn’t just us – watch how attentive 5R is. As soon as the female stands up you can see him looking down into the nest at the egg. 40 days of incubation is underway!

We now expect the female to lay another egg over the weekend and then hopefully a third early next week. Keep watching the webcam, or even better visit us and share the drama with us at Lyndon. You can be sure of a very warm welcome!
