Tired of waiting

Firstly an update on the latest situation at Rutland Water. At the moment we have had twelve Ospreys return to Rutland Water. Three of the five pairs that bred in 2013 are back with us, we also have our other two breeding females back on site longingly awaiting the arrival of their partners.

One of our females 24(10) who was first seen at Dyfi on 30th March paid a visit to Manton Bay on the 2nd April but has since returned to Dyfi.

At around lunchtime today a second Osprey was reported to be in the Manton Bay , it landed on the nest platform in front of Heron hide with a fish. Settled down to have a peaceful meal, but was soon chased off in the direction of Lax Hill by the female from the Manton nest. The bird returned to the Heron bay platform again at about 4oclock still grasping the half eaten fish.

For most of the day the Manton Bay female has been nest building and just sitting and waiting.
