We rarely see any aggression between the chicks in the Manton Bay nest, but this morning the larger of the two had a very agggressive peck at its younger sibling.
Perhaps the chick was just hungry? If so, it didn’t have long to wait for a meal – 5R arrived with a huge Roach just a few minutes later, evading an attack from a Greater black-backed Gull en route to the nest. We often see large gulls attempting to rob the Ospreys of their fish when they have made a catch and, on this occasion, 5R did well to deliver the fish to the nest safely. The fish was so big that it has kept the family well-fed nearly all day.
