The Rutland Osprey project is extremely lucky to be supported by a team of over 150 very dedicated and hard-working volunteers. Each year we have a special end-of-season party to thank them all. During the party we always put on a bit of ‘entertainment’ and, so, as a special festive treat, here’s our offering this year…
…The Rutland Ospreys News Channel! Please note that this was completely unrehearsed! Keep an eye out for a special appearance from the Stig too…
Thanks to Dave Cole for filming all the fun. Merry Christmas to you all.

As you will know if you have been following the work of the project in recent years, we have set-up an education project in West Africa that aims to give local school children the opportunity to learn about wildlife and conservation. The project, which is co-ordinated in Africa by Gambian bird guide Junkung Jadama, has enabled students from three schools to learn more about Ospreys and other wildlife through a series of talks and fieldtrips. The work, which has included purchasing computer equipment and optics for use by the students, has been funded by a series of sponsored events and fund-raising activities.
Having successfully piloted the project in three schools, we now plan to extend it to other parts of Gambia and Senegal. With this in mind, we are very grateful to Stamford Burghley Rotary and Ladies Inner Wheel who have just donated £300 towards the project: money they raised by holding a Bridge Tea. We’ll be using their money to help fund further field trips over the coming months. This, we hope, will help the students to develop a greater understanding of bird migration and the need to project species like Ospreys, during the winter.
