About Kielder Castle

Kielder Castle Visitor Centre is run by the Forestry Commission England and is where you can go to find out about the ospreys in and around Kielder Reservoir. In the exhibition in the Castle you can find out more about ospreys, other wildlife specialities of the area (e.g. red squirrels) and the Northumberland Dark Skies Park. When the ospreys are in residence there are live nestcam feeds to 2 of the 3 nests which can be watched on television screens in Kielder Castle Cafe. School groups can book the use of a classroom in the Castle for a visit to see the ospreys or to complete other activities in the area.

What we would like to achieve

Learning about other osprey migration routes and to encourage school groups to come and visit Kielder Water & Forest Park to see the Kielder ospreys when they are here.

About our local Ospreys

In 2014 there were 3 nests in the Kielder area and 8 osprey chicks were raised. More information can be found on the Kielder Osprey Blog:
