About our local Ospreys

We are fortunate to have ospreys throughout the year that live here on our islands. Nesting sites have been built for the osprey and this allows us to observe them close at hand. We often see ospreys diving for food in the ocean and flying above us when we are on the beach.

During Osprey Week, we hope to have someone from the local Department of Environment and Maritime Affairs (DEMA) present an assembly to us on our local Ospreys. A local vet is also currently nursing an injured osprey and hope that he can share his experience with us.

We have read that the osprey that breed in the Turks and Caicos Islands are a distinct sub-species that have a faint stripe behind the eye. Ospreys that are not from the region have a pronounced black stripe. We are not sure if our osprey migrate? We don't think they do as we see them throughout the year and believe that they like to stay as they have plenty of food and the weather is always warm. This is a question we would like an expert to help us find the answer to.

We are pleased to pass on that our local Department of Environmental Marine Affairs (DEMA) will be installing a new nesting platform in celebration of WOW!

    Hello Provo Primary!

Greetings from Finland, Pornainen Comprehensive, we are still waiting our own osprey called Ilmari to start migration from Africa to his home nest in Southern Finland.

Our students have been drawing many pictures about our Ospreys, but tomorrow they will compare the differences between yours and ours.

Your pictures are fantastic! Hope You have time to see some pictures about our Ospreys.
